Shelter WA Perception Survey

Many thanks to those who took part in the Shelter WA annual perception survey.

This survey provides us with important insight on what we’re doing well and areas for improvement.

Overall the results were positive for Shelter WA highlighting areas where we had improved over the last 12 months and areas for further focus. We were pleased that 84 per cent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed, that we undertake sound research and provide high quality evidence-based policy advice to government and stakeholders.

Also that 80 per cent of respondents agreed or strongly agreed, that we host effective research and policy working groups and provides valuable policy advice when participating in policy debates.

Respondents were asked if Shelter WA has a good reputation as a peak body in Western Australia. 90 per cent of respondents said yes. What was pleasing was the significant increase in positive results in comparison to our 2017-2018 survey.

For example, respondents were asked if they saw Shelter WA as a sector leader - 80 per cent said yes, compared to 64 per cent the previous year.

Importantly for us, the survey provided some valuable insight on areas for Shelter WA to improve. This includes working better with other organisations to leverage advocacy and data in order to influence better, the need to continue to build a reputation for professionalism, insight and engagement and to be mindful of the ‘voice’ of advocacy – especially our tone, volume and frequency according to the audience. Also, there is a greater need for us to focus more on rural and remote areas as the housing issues are quite different.

Shelter WA would like to thank everybody who took the time to complete the survey. This feedback is important to us.
