Rental Affordability Index

Plans are now advanced for the next release of the Rental Affordability Index (RAI) on November 27.

The RAI is an indicator of the price of rents relative to household incomes based on new rental agreements. It is released biannually by National Shelter, Community Sector Banking, SGS Economics & Planning and the Brotherhood of St Laurence.

Ahead of the release, the RAI Committee has been finalising the data, sharpening messages and looking for case studies to illustrate highlighted issues.

Specifically, we are looking for case studies for renters on Newstart and other working or non-working lower-income households to illustrate the points made in the release. If you have Newstart recipients as clients or people you know who would be willing to share their stories with the media please contact Adrian Pisarski, Executive Officer of National Shelter on 0417 975 270.

National Shelter Executive Officer Adrian Pisarski met with advisors in Minister Michael Sukkar's office and has reached out to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg and other ministers to advise them of the approaching release.

Shelter WA will provide a comprehensive examination of the impact rental affordability is having in both the regional and metropolitan areas of Western Australia upon the reports' release.

Follow our social media for the latest updates and for analysis on the reports' contents.
