Return Recycle Renew
New employment opportunities through the container deposit scheme.
Shelter WA met with WA Return Recycle Renew Ltd (WARRRL), the scheme coordinator of WA’s new container deposit scheme, Containers for Change.
Containers for Change, will launch in June 2020 to help increase recycling rates and reduce litter.
A 10-cent refund will be given for each eligible container, encouraging recycling. One of the objectives of the WA Container Deposit Scheme is to provide employment opportunities for people with a disability or people who have faced long term unemployment. National Disability Services has been involved as a priority with the Scheme given the focus on employment outcomes for people with disabilities.
WARRRL are interested to learn how the scheme can facilitate new employment opportunities and social enterprises for homelessness service providers and people experiencing homelessness. This could be through the collection of containers, development of refund or donation collection points and partnerships with industry to receive virtual donations.
Shelter WA is working with WARRRL to facilitate a workshop targeted for homelessness service providers. Further information on this will be provided.
Service providers interested in this opportunity can register an interest here. As collection points will be needed across WA, including on remote communities, WARRRL are running a series of information sessions across the State.
Further information on this can be found here.
