National Shelter AGM

The National Shelter AGM, and meeting of the State Shelter Associations, was held prior to the AHURI conference in Darwin. This provided an opportunity for the CEO of National Shelter and the state based Shelter network to discuss the national policy priorities and advocacy strategies.

The Hon Luke Howarth MP, Assistant Minister for Community Housing, Homelessness and Community Services, attended the meeting.

A productive discussion was held on how the Shelter network could work with him and his government to increase social and affordable housing supply and end homelessness. Discussions were broad ranging including harnessing the priorities within Infrastructure Australia, utilisation of social housing as a stimulus package, including maximising the community housing sector and utilisation of federal government land assets, and how social housing could be locked into City Deals. The Minister is seeking ideas from the sector.

Shelter WA will continue to work with the national Shelter network and the WA sector to put forward ideas to the Minister to grow social and affordable housing in WA.
