Housing Data Dashboard

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has launched a housing data dashboard which brings together for the first time approximately 7 million data points from across 20 key national housing and homelessness datasets.

The development of the site involved liaison with experts in the housing and homelessness fields to identify which resources would aid in identifying Australia’s shortfalls and oversupply in order to address housing and homelessness.

The entire housing spectrum from housing market financial data through to regional population changes and homelessness estimates are covered and individuals can choose to display the real-time data of most importance to them.

Dr Klaudia Mierswa, Policy Officer at Shelter WA has reviewed the dashboard to see how it can be applied in WA.

“Shelter WA welcomes the investment of the Federal government in the housing data dashboard, as well as the launch of the housing data dashboard itself, which brings together the existing data sets covering the whole housing spectrum in a more efficient and collated manner.”

“The interactive displays and detailed analysis available through the housing data dashboard, will be invaluable in supporting Shelter WA’s existing collection of data and statistics covering the different components of the housing spectrum as well as the characteristics of households in Western Australia.”

There are 58 individual datasets available which focus on Western Australia. Under the homelessness and social housing categories it includes:

  • Social Housing
    Dwellings and households.
    Social rental housing stock (OECD).
    Wait lists.
    Suitability of social housing size.
    Tenant satisfaction with services.
    Housing amenities – tenant ratings.
  • Homelessness
    Homeless estimates – personal characteristics.
    Homeless estimates – geography.
    People with experiences of homelessness.
    People in other marginal housing.
    Homelessness services – client characteristics.
