Homelessness Week Grants

What is Homelessness Week?

Homelessness Week is a national week of events to raise awareness about homelessness in our community. In 2019, it will run from Monday, 5 - Sunday, 11 August.

The theme for Homelessness Week in WA this year is, ‘Home, Safe Home’.

Shelter WA has received funding from Lotterywest and the Department of Communities to host Homelessness Week in Western Australia.

Shelter WA would like to acknowledge our Homelessness Week Reference Group, who provide ongoing support and direction for the planning of Homelessness Week. We would also like to acknowledge our Lived Experience Working Group, who have provided advice and ideas on how best to ensure the voice of lived experience of homelessness informs the program.

Homelessness Week Event Grants

Shelter WA is committed to supporting organisations to hold their own events and exhibitions throughout Western Australia as part of Homelessness Week 2019, that align with the theme of Homelessness Week.

As well as hosting a series of events throughout Homelessness Week, we have also established an event grants program to provide financial support to not-for-profit organisations and local governments hosting an event during Homelessness Week. These event grants are available for up to $2000 per organisation.

In 2019, we are pleased to present a range of funding opportunities that are designed to have a wide-reaching effect in raising awareness about homelessness in local metro and regional communities.

Innovative and inspiring events

We encourage organisations to be innovative and where possible provide opportunities for people with lived experience of homelessness to be able to share their story or be involved in the event.

Home safe Home

This year’s theme for Homelessness Week 2019 is ‘Home, Safe Home’. This theme highlights that everyone deserves to feel safe. It also captures the important role home plays in feeling safe and how not having a home, and not feeling safe can impact in myriad of ways; mental and physical health / well-being, ability to secure work, maintain relationships, become a functioning member of the community and ultimately, be able to thrive.

We encourage your organisation to consider how its event aligns with the theme.

Joint grant applications

We encourage organisations in the same region to, where appropriate, consider delivering collaborative regional events and applying for a joint grant with other organisations. Joint grants can allow organisations to achieve more effective and efficient use of finance resources, enhance event delivery and establish a strong collective voice and presence in the local community. If you are applying for a joint grant, please identify this in your application form.

How to apply

All not-for-profit community services organisations and local governments in Western Australia are invited to apply for the Homelessness Week event grants.

Each event will be featured in our Homelessness Week media and promotional campaign. Please provide any photographs (with permissions) prior to the event or exhibition, along with a brief overview to assist us in promoting your event or exhibition.

Please submit your application by email by 31 May 2019 to projects@shelterwa.org.au.

Please note: All event grant applications are reviewed by the Shelter WA team and final funding decisions are made by the Shelter WA Chief Executive Officer. All applicants must sign that they accept the Conditions of Grant outlined in this document. As outlined in the Conditions of Grant, event grants will be provided to successful organisations following Homelessness Week, once receipts and invoices of monies paid are submitted.
