Lived Experience Working Group

Members of the Homelessness Week 2019 Lived Experience Working Group met for the first time this week.

The Group was established to advise the Homelessness Week Reference Group on the 2019 Homeless Week program of events to ensure the program amplifies and gives voice to people with lived experience of homelessness.

Shelter WA advertised expressions of interest in March welcoming participants to apply from a wide array of lived experience homelessness backgrounds.

Terms of Reference are finalised, and advice is fed back to the Homelessness Week Reference Group via the lived experience advisors, Kit Scott and Jonathan Shapiera.

Group Chairperson Kit Scott

Group Chairperson Kit Scott opened the meeting and welcomed all. As it was the first meeting connections were made through the sharing of lived experiences, expertise, ideas and perspectives on Homelessness Week. The group has eight participants, two of which are regionally based and participate by teleconference. Preliminary discussions focused on the topics of how to maintain a home after being homeless, debt collectors and removing the stigma of homelessness.

The meeting was observed by Shelter WA CEO Michelle Mackenzie and Policy and Projects Officer, Lauren Howe.

The group meets again on Friday, 3 May.
