Have Your Say - LGA
Did you know the Local Government Act is being reviewed?
Local Government plays a critical role in delivering an effective housing system through the Local Government Act and other instruments such as their Town Planning Schemes, local laws and administration of the Public Health Act.
The review of the Local Government Act is proposing significant reforms to community engagement, elections and the ways Local Government raise revenue including rates and the establishment of beneficial enterprises. Shelter WA, working closely with the Western Australian Council of Social Service (WACOSS) and the Community Housing Industry Association (CHIA WA), will put forward a submission into the review of the Local Government Act covering all aspects that impact on social and affordable housing and homelessness.
CHIA WA and Shelter WA are conducting a joint survey on the potential impact on the community sector if rate exemptions were abolished. We’re after examples, case studies and financial costings of how the current rates exemptions supports providers to deliver affordable and social housing in WA.
Agencies only need to complete one survey.
Please complete the survey by clicking on this link and send any additional information and responses to Lisa Kazalac, Consultant Policy and Advocacy by Friday, 25 January 2019 to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you’d like to make a submission yourself directly to the review please go to the Departments website: www.dlgsc.wa.gov.au/lgareview.
We look forward to your response which will inform our submission.
