WA End Homelessness Alliance representatives, in partnership with the Australian Alliance to End Homelessness, met Federal politicians to discuss homelessness, including The Hon Dan Tehan, Minister for Social Security, and Senator the Hon Doug Cameron, Shadow Minister for Housing and Homelessness.
Housing and homelessness has many touch-points across government.
The meetings highlighted work to end homelessness in WA and other jurisdictions, and the positive impact of access to housing and appropriate services not only on people’s lives but on government services and the budget bottom line.
This was an opportunity not only to highlight good practice, but to stress the importance of leadership through the development of a national homelessness and affordable housing strategy, including national targets, a framework for capturing, utilising and monitoring data across government and the community sector, and for ongoing investment partnerships in housing supply,  innovation, service systems and housing support.

The meetings were positive and have provided the foundation for ongoing discussions at the Federal level. The WA End Homelessness Alliance will continue to ensure that all spheres of government understand that with the right strategy and policy settings homelessness can end, and that homelessness is at the top of their policy agenda.
