Shelter WA on METRONET advisory group

Shelter WA is delighted to be part of the recently established METRONET private sector reference group.

Minister for Transport, Planning and Lands Rita Saffioti this week announced the formation of the group which includes: representative from the Urban Development Institute of Australia, the Planning Institute of Australia, the Property Council of Australia, the Real Estate Institute of WA, the Housing Industry Association, the Master Builders' Association and Australian Property Institute.

The METRONET Private Sector Reference group will advise about a variety of complex planning issues vital to METRONET and recommendations will be referred to the METRONET team.

Shelter WA Chief Executive Officer Michelle Mackenzie said this is a significant opportunity for government to work with industry and the community sector to plan for diverse, affordable, and social housing choices that respond to community needs.

We are excited to be able to share our sector knowledge and skills, in particular what the community housing and services sector will bring to create vibrant, liveable communities through the integration of sustainable social and affordable housing options in and around the Metronet precincts,” said Ms Mackenzie

"The Community Housing sector has demonstrated its ability to deliver social and affordable housing outcomes in partnership with government, other NGOs and the private sector.

“There have been learnings through previous projects which Shelter WA believes can inform Metronet’s land use planning policies and infrastructure development. We are excited by the opportunity to help shape policy to enable Metronet to grow social and affordable housing in Western Australia.

“Planning for the provision of social and affordable housing is critical for the formation of diverse, inclusive communities.”

Shelter WA commends Minister Saffioti for establishing the reference group.
